Culture Pass NYC: booking help and free alternatives
Culture Pass is a library reservation program, not a walk-in museum pass. Use its official booking system to find current availability. If your preferred pass is unavailable, several museums offer free admission through their own policies, without using a Culture Pass reservation.
Your planning questions
Check your library card first
The program accepts eligible full-service cards from NYPL, Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Public Library, with a minimum account-holder age of 13. Some electronic and temporary card types do not qualify. Check the official FAQ for your card type before relying on the program.
Plan before downloading the pass
The FAQ limits reservations to one per institution per calendar year and four active reservations. New passes are released on the first of the month for the following month. Downloading or printing prevents cancellation. Check the guest allowance, holder identification and institution-specific instructions before confirming your plan.
When no pass is available
Start with the two general-admission options below. Compare their locations and opening days with the museum you originally wanted to visit. For an evening, use the Friday guide; for a flexible budget, use the pay-what-you-wish comparison. These are alternative outings, not ways to enter a sold-out Culture Pass institution.
