The Rose Main Reading Room is one of the most beautiful rooms in New York -- 78 feet long with a painted cloud ceiling. The Polonsky Exhibition has a Gutenberg Bible, a Columbus letter, and Jefferson's handwritten Declaration draft. All free.
After: Grand Central Oyster Bar (seafood, $14-30). Grand Central Terminal, 5 min walk. The vaulted tile ceiling is gorgeous. Pan roast at the counter is the move.
