Make a visit of it
Walk it north to south (start at 34th St, end at Gansevoort) -- fewer crowds going that direction. The viewing window at 10th Ave is a frame for the street below. Commissioned art installations change seasonally. The Spur at 30th St has the best seating.
After: Bonsignour (café, $). jane st near 8th ave, 2 min from the gansevoort stairs. tiny french-ish cafe with four tables and the best croissants in the neighborhood. closes at 5pm so plan accordingly.
